Pros

Get the chance to learn tremendously of aws and distributed, high scale system design, operation and development.

Cons

1. Team culture cross whole CloudWatch is the worst I have ever seen. 2. A strong blaming attitude. 3. No sense of teammate cooperation, basically you are on your own. 4. There is a strong culture of PIP, last 10% performer are mostly at risk of being fired. 5. No knowledge sharing, u r on your own. why? as if you go down, others will be saved from being PIP. 6. Everyone is on the survival mode. 7. Most engineers plus managers are not actually enjoying the work, they do not leave simply because there are not many place can offer as good as Amazon. 8. Blindly respect of senior engineer. Non senior engineer is in even harder survival mode. 9. Promotion of bad engineer, even though he did not do good job in leading the project. even though he did not provide good impact. 10. High work load and huge pressure coming from top to down on project delivery. Even at the expense of threading people being at the edge of PIP.

Pros

* Team level autonomy and accountability. * Always learning. * Strong performers everywhere in the company. * Rational decision making process. * Once you have proven yourself there are a lot of different areas to work in within Amazon. * Fast growing company provides many opportunities.

Cons

* Risk of having a bad "first-time" manager. * Some teams own a lot of technical debt. * On-call rotation can cause bad work-life balance.
