Great place to grow as a SDE. With so many teams and large scale, there are plenty of engineering challenges. Amazon is not known for hand holding, as a SDE you will be able to own projects from design, implementation, testing, release, to maintenance.

Cons

Minimal benefits compared to other tech companies. Some teams have high ops load.

Pros

Love the culture. Love the immediate growth and responsibilities and ownership. Love my manager. Love my colleagues. Very fun environment even when owning one of the most stressful products.

Cons

You will be doing a LOT of devops work as a software engineer because : A- Amazon is VERY frugal (even a little with your raises) B= It will teach you ownership of your code deployments. CSTech is a little too much into the "customer obsession", which is good for some people, but if you cannot handle the stress and the constant busy oncall, then apply to AWS instead. You will have oncall no matter what though.
