Pros

- Flexible Hours - Tremendous amounts of personal ownership in products - Always customer focused (99% of the time) - Personal growth potential is through the roof

Cons

- Can be long hours. This is mitigated if you communicate with management frequently about progress and realistic expectations. Hint: you can always push back on deadlines. - often Too much ambiguity in requirements (just means lots more communication and before coding). Amazon almost prides itself on dealing with ambiguity -- it's sometimes taken to the extreme. - Everythig is constantly in flux, I have come back from a few 2 day vacations to find my project had morphed while I was gone. This is due to the pace of the workplace.

Pros

A lot of opportunities around - eventually anyone can find something that is good for him and variety of locations is fantastic as well. It's really cool that company started to promote the culture of internal transfers between different locations.

Cons

The situation in the team mostly depends on your manager - there are good teams (where people want to work) and there are bad teams. Internal transfers is not always an option - if you have a good relationship with your manager there is no need to a transfer, but if the relationship is bad it could be difficult to get a good review for the transfer.

Pros

Challenging, you get to work with very smart people, get to work with latest technologies, awesome infrastructure and development tools (continuous deployment, monitoring, very helpful internal wiki, you name it)

Cons

If you are not careful you can burn out easily, some teams are having rather unmanageable devops loads, some things can be frustrating, for example some of the aws features are much easier to use if you are external customer
