Pros

FAANG level pay, too bad its the worst of the bunch.

Cons

- Zero meaningful benefits, you must stay 3 years in order to earn your 401k match. - Unrealistic deadlines set by "Software Development Managers" who have never developed software in their life. - Bad engineering culture -- no tests/declining code quality due to deadlines, toxic agile/sprint practices (i.e. exact day estimates, pointless retros, long daily stand ups), weak code review process - Poor to non existent mentorship from senior+ engineers - Leadership straight up lies: Went from "we will never end remote work", to "we are ending remote work except for those hired virtually", to "everyone must return or face termination without severance"

Pros

1. Relative freedom when it comes to most technology choices (as long as you can make case for it not hampering operational excellence, you can use any programming language you want). 2. Lower level management is generally understanding of personal circumstances.

Cons

1. Despite their original promise that RTO will not affect virtual employees (on the eve of COVID many people were hired as 100% Virtual/Remove without an office assignment), the company is now asking us to either move to one of the hub locations or quit. 2. Despite the claims that "you own your career at Amazon", promotion process above L5 depends more on people around you than on your own merit.
