Pros

Generous (though somewhat volatile) compensation. When the stock is not doing well, the pay is just okay. When the stock is doing well, it can be quite lucrative, especially if you hang around long enough to ride the waves.

Cons

There are some great people at Amazon, but there are some toxic people (and teams) as well. Find a good department and team and Amazon can be great. Find a bad one, and life can be hell. Transfer if you can ASAP. The biggest problem are the way global policies are announced and carried out without feedback heard from employees. The way the layoffs were handled (with a looming threat for months), and then the way the remote work policy was rolled out then rolled back was truly one of the most abysmal showings in corporate history.

Pros

Great company filled with amazing and intelligent people. You learn and grow so much just by being within Amazon. The culture and rigor around their process/standards is the highest in the industry. You will never experience growth and learning the way you can at Amazon.

Cons

To truly succeed and have fun at Amazon: You have to be ready to compromise your work/life balance and commit to your work because you are going to be competing with everyone else in the company who is facing the same choice. The company is filled with passionate people who are willing to make this choice. The people who succeed at Amazon have made this commitment but they are also working with the best of the best on amazing projects, so the commitment is not inherently bad.
