Pros

-Good colleagues. -Good opportunities to learn new things. -Excellent name to have in your CV. -Good opportunities to work on huge projects. -Good place to learn how to work hard, under pressure and deliver results quickly. -Good place for networking. -Each year at Amazon feels like seven years at any other company.

Cons

-When I left Amazon after more than six years, 89% of the company’s global workforce (out of approximately 1.5 million employees) had been hired after me. This fact speaks volumes about the workplace environment. To put it into perspective, the average tenure for office employees at Amazon (worldwide) is only 1.5 years. -The only goal from the company is to squeeze you like a lemon asap and then get rid off you. -Extremely toxic culture. -Management composed of incompetent clowns (especially who were hired during pandemy). -There was no real work-life balance. Theoretically, the working hours were 8, but I never worked less than 10. -Lack of opportunities to achieve real and recognized certifications. -Unfair and ridicolous wages and bonuses. -No career improvements and unfair and tedious promotions process. -A deeply political and ambiguous environment. -Lots of greenwashing and hypocrisy.

Working here sucks

Pros

Competitive salary and benefits. Opportunity to work on large-scale projects and gain experience. Exposure to innovative technologies and processes.

Cons

Unrealistic Workloads: Program Managers are expected to handle an overwhelming number of projects simultaneously with little to no support. Burnout is not just common—it's expected. Poor Work-Life Balance: Amazon's "customer obsession" often translates to sacrificing evenings, weekends, and personal time to meet impossible deadlines. Toxic Culture: Leadership principles like "bias for action" are taken to extremes, creating a high-pressure environment where mistakes are punished rather than treated as learning opportunities. Lack of Career Development: There’s minimal focus on professional growth for Program Managers. You’re a cog in the machine, not a valued contributor. Micromanagement: Leadership often undermines the autonomy of Program Managers, leading to constant second-guessing and unnecessary escalations.
