Pros

American Express has been a phenomenal company to work for, the past 2.5 years. The emphasis on raising and developing employee talent internally is tremendous. It is a great place to work, especially when looking at the work/life balance component.

Cons

There aren't too many bad things about American Express. It's almost like the ideal Fortune 100 company.

Pros

I used to think Amex was a great place to work. I'm a Team Leader in a large travel call center in Michigan and a few years ago I watched my current boss railroad a couple of Managers in the office. The company was restructuring positions and these two guys gave everything to Amex, their time, vacation time, days off, etc. and for what to have one woman who is still there be on a power trip and got rid of both of them. I've been disappointed in Amex for years. The best reason to stay is for the benefits!!

Cons

The current Director in the call center, she is not professional but expects others to be. She is real quick to point out what we the employees are doing wrong, but she has no accountability in her actions.

Pros

Ability to make your own decisions and influence change within the organization from day one. At Amex, the quality of senior leaders is incredible across all business units, there is no doubt that we have lost talented people over the years, but if you have been a senior leader at Amex for a while it's because you have proven yourself in many instances and can lead people. Ken Chenault is potentially the most inspiring CEO I've ever had the opportunity to work with/for.

Cons

Similar to any big bureaucracy we sometimes get in the way of our own success by creating rules and processes that slow us down and don't either help our customers, employees or business (in that order).
