A Welcoming Place

Pros

I recently started at AppDynamics and as someone coming from a non-tech space, I was a little nervous. However, I've found AppD to be such a welcoming place. Everyone who I've met so far is really passionate about the work they do and the company as a whole. The company itself is investing a lot of time and energy into the people who work here and the values it wants to uphold. All of those things have made coming to work that much more fulfilling. AppD has a collection of really smart, really humble, and really down-to-earth go-getters who not only want to put out a great product, but have a positive impact on the world (I know this sounds cliche but I've never been in a work environment where this is practiced more).

Cons

There are a lot of moving parts within the company and sometimes it can be hard to know what's going on or who knows what. There also doesn't seem to be as much cross-functional team interaction--there's lots going on and teams tend to do social things within themselves but it'd be great to see more office-wide or company-wide events.

Great company, but not an "agile" company

Pros

• Start-up culture, but without the “cult” feeling • Growing start-up; supported by a financially stable parent • More “mature” than other startups; you don’t have to worry about getting hit in the head by a nerf gun while you’re working on a report • Shuttle service from the south bay • Great, product-focused CEO • Good work-life balance

Cons

• I can’t believe that I am saying this but there are not enough restrooms in the office; there are lines at all hours of the day • Nobody seems like they get promoted • Non-technically minded people do have problems here - its a complex product • Company is pushing more “fun”, but management needs to realize that “fun” clashes with deadlines that they’ve imposed • Management needs to provide a list of prioritized strategies / goals and stick to them. Sometimes it feels like we have a moving target of prioritizations. • The company has decided to move to an “agile” environment (not only for product /engineering, but all departments), but there are no experienced agile SME’s on-staff – this is causing HUGE problems
