Pros

Great use of Salesforce, Google Apps, all sorts of cool cloud based systems. If you're "in" with the powers that be, you are in! And great swag.

Cons

Appirio seems to hire massive amounts of people at once. During the extremely long and unnecessarily repetitive interview process, you really think you are special, but then you get to Appirio 101 orientation and see that there are several hundred people there, and frankly, most don't seem all that amazing. The way that works is that most of these people will be let go very, very soon. I was let go after working on just one project, with no warning, or any feedback or counseling from my manager. I repeatedly asked for an evaluation, feedback, advice, anything and was either ignored or told I was doing fine. Then I was given a severance and told that I wasn't needed. Pretty crummy, considering that I left a steady and secure job for Appirio. There are some very nasty and ruthless people in the company who are very aggressive and are high earners. Their abrasiveness is forgiven and overlooked, they are constantly rewarded and recognized as being wonderful. That's very demoralizing. Overall, my experience was awful. I never got any learning or advice, just basically hung around for a while, "shadowing" but not really doing much, then got a project, and was immediately dismissed. My manager was absurdly absent, kind of smiled absentmindedly a lot but gave zero management or oversight. I think honestly I was forgotten about for a while. This is a company that desperately wants to be facebook and ruthlessly hires and fires people in some sort of a "winners take all" mentality where people aren't given any guidance or a chance to learn. If you don't come out of the gate a super star, you are basically done. And this after 10 interviews, you'd think they'd take a bit more care.

Dust Bowl Where Clouds Don't Always Reign

Pros

Work/life balance is a great advantage, since consultants are all virtual. This allows you to work the hours you want to work (outside of meetings) and fit your job into your life, not the other way around. For the most part, there is no micromanaging, except for some PM's Home office technology and software provided to employees is a huge plus. You get what you need, and then some. Travel is minimal

Cons

Reorgs occur once per year on average, which lead managers to not invest in their people Little to no opportunity for career advancement Managers are not willing to go to bat to support their direct reports' needs. Managers lie about barriers to advancement, or provide "keep up the good work" messages when employees ask for criteria to reach the next level. When you do meet all of the criteria, you're told, "I cannot promote you outside of the merit cycle," then multiple employees get promoted outside of it. Job descriptions and qualifications can only be pulled from job postings. Even then, they're not applicable. Reactive culture that desires to be proactive and fails Below market compensation in marketplaces where competitors are willing to compensate much more and provide structured, stable career growth. Vast disparities in compensation for the same job profile, as there are no salary guidelines. Also, compensation for a "consultant" should not be considered the same across the platforms on which they consult...the market decides. Tenure takes precedence over merit and value generation After drawing initial fresh breaths of air in the first six months of joining the company, the air is knocked out of you upon realizing you may not be one of the "chosen."
