Pros

Information is shared all the way down to the lowest levels. For example, when I worked in manufacturing in the nineties relatively sensitive information about sales, forecasts, and new products were routinely shared with the lowest level worker. In addition information about salary guidelines up to the director level were readily available to all employees. The ability to move horizontally in the company is fairly easy. It is not uncommon for a person to have had jobs within the company in several different distinct groups. For example a New Products manager may have experience in Human Resources, Materials, and Facilities.

Cons

In general, near perfection is the assumed performance that an employee will give. As a result, significant accomplishments are often taken for granted by managers with little recognition being given to the employee. Even though the monetary recognition is there, the importance of the old pat on back is often forgotten.

Pros

A chance to say you work for a "cool" company, that outsiders admire for the most part. There's also a chance to be involved in a great innovative energy that you might not get elsewhere. Sort of a halo effect from the creativity that occurs all over, not just in engineering. At the end of the day, its nice to be recognized for being part of the effort. All in all, its a good community to be involved with.

Cons

The caste system between engineers and all who are not. Includes pay, smugness, attitude. People who aren't engineers are sometimes regarded as less intellectual, even though the work might be very creative, very important, and very mind intensive. You have use the F-word, "flexible", more times than one cares to count.

Pros

Independent work culture making you manage ur workload.....

Cons

Too vague in terms of processes making it frustrating sometimes to get in touch with the right people.... sometimes I wonder at the inefficiences with which we operate in terms of operations and still get such a healthy margin.... what would happen if we can tighten our processes... somehow vagueness is a doubel-edged sword here at apple.. it fosters great ideas sometimes but leads to ad-hoc actions a lot of times making the company lot of money.....
