Pros

The cafe in the main building is very nice and has a wide variety. Electrical outlets to charge electric cars are in the garages.

Cons

The political nonsense is more than enough to drive someone into a deep depression. I have worked in the industry for quite sometime. I have to say, AstraZeneca was by far the worst place I have ever been employed at. There was a new hire orientation every single Monday for full time people and new contractors. Meaning their turn over rate is just awful. I know several women who worked their for 6+ years, that were let go. Yet they are still hiring. They also promise all of their contractor that once they are full time their pay will increase, but it doesn’t. Instead, they will keep that person a contractor for as long as they can, then cut their contract. I have seen it happen with every single contract person I knew. Higher ups are extremely hypocritical due to the fact that they spout these values saying that they care about diversity and inclusion. All the while locally they tried and tried denying any group that has to do with the LGBTQ+ community. There is also a major racial and sexist issues. When a complaint of racism or sexism would be reported, higher ups would look the other way. Even if HR got involved, they know these people so instead of taking a reasonable action against numerous complaints, instead, they force the victim out of the company. Not the perpetrator! They would put the victim on PIP for no reason, they would pull work from other teams only to increasing the vics workload. If they email for time off months in advance higher ups will flat out deny it. I also attempted to move to several better positions. I went through all of the processes and even got verbal offer letters. However when the time came for the actual offer letters, I never heard anything. I never even got rejection emails. Instead, I would just meet the person they put into the position. Those people are truly monsters and they still work there to this day. Please please please whatever you do, if you are thinking about working here, think twice. If you are through the hiring process, get hired and find something else. Keep your head down and do not fully engage with anyone. The moment that you do, they will find something about you that they do not like and your job will be on the line. I sincerely kid you not.

Pros

Great pipeline and science. Great colleagues who are smart and care about patients and doing their best

Cons

Chaotic environment to work in, desk space is limited and no quiet rooms or team rooms are available for meetings. There is limited ability to work remotely and are constantly monitoring employees. It is sad to see what happened to this great company. Many colleagues I speak to are actively looking for another job with more flexibility. Most don’t want to leave their jobs but they will and the company policies and restrictive, no trust environment has left them no choice.

Great Pipeline but Problems Lurk Beneath

Pros

Pay and benefits seem on par with the market. Really good pipeline prospects. Super smart people and wonderful scientists who are very inspiring.

Cons

Since Covid, expectation on deliverables has been blown out of the water. What was done as an exceptional effort is more the norm now. Work life balance is encouraged but work load can be immense. Little management support, nobody seems to want to challenge upwards, very autocratic. Becoming less focused on human element of workforce and just results driven, irrespective of human capital cost. Lots of roles moving to cheaper countries, limited work space in some locations, mandated 60% attendance - despite success in remote work during Covid. Lots of boxes ticked on the outside but reality on the ground is very different. Not a very diverse environment if you have recognised disabilities and require support. If they think you can't hack the new pace, you are out. HR only support managers, do not expect any integrity. Quite sad really, it used to be a great place to work.
