Pros

Nice people to work with

Cons

I must say I feel embarrassed to have put in so much time and effort during my 6 months probationary period. At no point during my time with the company were there any indications of any underperformance, in-fact, the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. Fast forward 4 weeks and my contract is terminated for reasons that were unobtainable at the time due to workload, and reasons that were very contradictory to positive feedback I had received just weeks before. It is clear from reading other glassdoor reviews that BDO have a culture of hiring team members on full time permanent contracts only to terminate you just before the 6 months mark. At no point was I given any constructive feedback or metrics to even give me any indication that I may not be kept on after my probation, leaving me in a very worrying uncertain period with a mortgage to pay. I will be appealing this decision, even though they know the law and I don’t really have a chance. I think their management need to have a conscience check and have a long hard think about how they are treating people. I do not reccomend working at BDO.

Pros

Good learning opportunities and exposur

Cons

My experience during the probation period was disappointing. While I respect the firm’s decision not to confirm my employment, the way the exit was handled lacked transparency. Employees are asked to keep the reason for exit confidential, but in my case a different reason was communicated, stating that I chose to leave the firm, which creates the wrong perception about an employee’s professional record. Additionally, there were concerns around job security during probation. No structured feedback with clear numbers, performance metrics, or insights was shared prior to the decision, which made the outcome unexpected.
