Pros

A lot less red tape compared to larger firms, so internal admin processes such as client acceptances are quickly executed.

Cons

A lot less red tape compared to larger firms, so there is no accountability at the partner level whatsoever. Standards vary and are very low in all aspects (client deliverable, technical expertise, staff training, technology, etc.). Fees are deeply discounted to win new work and partners have no shame about openly and directly pressuring staff to eat hours and cutting corners in order for them to profit from the deeply discounted projects. It's a desperate environment that encourages unethical behaviors.

Pros

There is nothing good here.

Cons

I was part of the SS&G buyout. I wonder how many of those partners now regret how they voted. You are overworked, underpaid and completely unappreciated. They brag about their culture but it is a hostile work environment. That get rid of quality people to boost their bottom line. High turnover is laughable. They are a joke in the accounting industry. I could go on for days.

Pros

There's career advancement from associate to senior level. Good experience if you are a starting professional.

Cons

BDO doesn't care about its people. They only care about meeting the numbers which means enslaving their employees to keep the bosses happy. The managers and partners rarely show up on client sites and supervise their staff. You will work long hours starting from October - April depending on year-end clients, and bosses still won't be happy about your performance. On top of that, there's ZERO supervision from management and ZERO communication about expectations. There is lack of diversity, work and life balance, and supervision. The company is at lower scale when it comes to its social culture. The environment is toxic and higher-ups have the "Who's the boss here?" attitude. No room for growth here unless your only goal in life is to make your bosses 100% happy. New staff only receive online training, and they have a buddy system and career advisement that doesn't really mean anything. Staff are overworked with no say to management. If you are reading this and thinking about applying to BDO, please SAVE yourself. It is NOT worth it.
