Pros

Stepping stone to a Big 4

Cons

-18 months bond (3 months pay-back if broken). It is very common for staff to leave after their bond period. -Lousy remuneration and benefits -Management (Partners and Managers) show favouritism, which affect jobs assigned and exposure given, ultimately affecting career progression -No work life balance. During off-peak periods in audit, staff may be assigned to different departments which is having their peak period, hence staff will be experiencing 'peak period' all year round -Attractive exposure opportunities communicated during the interview was different from actual job assigned (i.e. IPO/listed jobs opportunities) -A lot of small SMES clients with messy accounts -Staff may encounter manager with foul temper, which is the one of the reasons staff breaks bond -Do not provide laptops to staff for work purpose, staff needs to buy from the company including the Microsoft software. Laptop depreciate over 3 years, that is, if staff will to leave the company before 3 years, they have to pay for the remaining useful life. The price 'sold' to the staff is often marked-up as compared to the same model sold in the market.

Pros

- During the off season its possible to take time off and work from home - You see a wide variety of clients and work which allows for a lot of learning and experience - Relatively young professionals

Cons

- Really long hours as expected with public accounting - Perception is reality. People are too focus on what everyone else is doing and not enough focus on their own work - Must be willing to go with the flow of the common beliefs in the office or be outcasted. Any criticism of upper management or how things are done will not get you far - A lot of favoritism and cliques - Way too much ego and patting of the back with upper management to notice how unhappy their staff is - High high turnover

Pros

-good learning environment -supportive team, great colleagues and peers were nice to work with -some fun and social activities from time to time -interesting work for the right partner

Cons

-strategic vision all over the place -BDO is not innovative and are very slow to adopt new technology, BDO feels like a dinosaur -compensation is poor -hours can be very long with no regard for the personal lives/work and life balance of staff (not what young people want anymore) and with no thanks, appreciation or recognition for hard work -BDO benefits don't compare with similar sized companies -morale and engagement very low in some offices (many staff describe it as toxic) and BDO does little to improve the situation -newly qualified accountants cut and run as soon as they're able, BDO can't retain staff, high turnover
