Inequitable

Pros

Really nice office in NYC with snacks, drinks and comfortable work stations. Some of the benefits are pretty good, specifically the health insurance options.

Cons

This company is totally inequitable. Leaderships gives themselves enormous bonuses while all lower level staff, who are beholden to much higher billable hours and admin work, hardly get anything comparable. The company also just got converted to an ESOP last year so you can only imagine what all the principals and above received in terms of a disgustingly huge buy out. No care for work life balance, lacks diversity unless your entry level and no transparency for anything.

So Disappointed

Pros

Pay is good and people are very nice to work with.

Cons

IF YOU GET LAID OFF BEWARE: BDO keeps your flex spending money if you don't use it in the month you are let go. I get that it's legal but it is reprehensible that they use this as a revenue source when they have let you go with a totally crappy severance package (4 weeks). I'm struggling because I have no job and no insurance and they kept my $1300 I had contributed of my own money. BDO over hired during the pandemic and made a poor choice with a recent merger. Massive layoff last summer because management did not have enough work to keep us busy.

Pros

- Growing so great exposure to clients taken from Big 4 - Audit sector team below Manager was supportive - Great look on CV - Good exposure to client senior management Rating would be higher but toxic work environment that is led by the white male partners, sexism and racism, inappropriate jokes about female employees especially when they get drunk.

Cons

- Burnout due to long hours and lack of resourcing. Some managers and graduates took months off work because of stress and mental health especially during the pandemic - Lack of diversity, equity and inclusion for ethnic minorities from assistant manager and up - The ethnic minority assistant managers and managers that were role models were treated badly so left - No clarity on performance appraisals and based on favouritism especially if you are a white male - Audit Partners and senior managers carry out targeted bullying and harassment especially if you are good at your job and your clients and teams respect and like you - Lack of training for junior members of team - No consequences for partners when bullying is reported. Partners are protected even with multiple people coming forward about being bullied - HR protects the bullies then punishes the bullied Work at BDO to get it on your CV but don't stay too long or your mental health will suffer
