Pros

Opportunity to work on challenging work A lot of paid holidays 1 week off at Christmas time 10 hours PTO each month

Cons

Cleveland Tax department: - no bonus to compensate for long hours - be expected to give up your life if you work in this office, expect 75 hour work weeks March- April and then 60 plus hours August- October. - no structure -hard work is measured by how late you are seen in the office. Regardless of how early you come in. - high school like atmosphere, you must make friends with the right people to get promoted in this office. - training is non existent for new hires - a lot of unhappy people which makes for a negative work environment

Thank you for your candid thoughts. We are sharing your commentary with the appropriate HR director and managing partner. We believe our bonuses do pay for performance and contribution measured by effort and effectiveness and that our core values embody respect and appreciation. We welcome the opportunity to address any variances from this type of experience. It is easier, though, if you could find your way to consider sharing your experiences with precision with your career advisor or HR manager or director so we have a full understanding of the facts.

Pros

The company has a wide variety of clients. There is now more SEC exposure which is beneficial to individuals who are looking to move elsewhere eventually.

Cons

Compensation, company culture, company is currently too focused on obtaining new clients (especially SEC clients) while the offices do not have the resources to take on these new large clients. This causes the high performers to be overworked and feel under appreciated, and has caused a large problem regarding retention.

Pros

In my experience, if you are going to be in public accounting, BDO is an excellent firm to join. In my experience, although the pay and prestige MAY fall a bit short of what the Big Four offer, the work-life balance potential, early-in-career exposure to interesting work/clients, and advancement opportunities even and possibly tip the scales in favor of BDO. BDO is becoming much more well-known ("People in the know..."), and the Big Four do recruit from BDO's ranks.

Cons

My understanding is that (a) employees and partners earn less--sometimes quite a bit less--than at the Big Four and (b) support services (e.g., tech and admin) are less available to rank and file of BDO than for counterparts at Big Four.
