Pros

Super tight knit ACs and Cs culture - because you have to band together to survive this hell on earth High growth = opportunity to work with client directly on day one

Cons

Management care very little about your development or work-life balance Lowest ranking office in employee satisfaction for 4 years in a row (of all 50+ offices in the company) Super high turnover and management are struggling to get enough consultants to staff their project Low moral, many are one project away from quitting (or losing it) Highly political, hard to get ahead if you don't play the game

The worst of Bain, globally

Pros

Global Training Programs Bain brand name

Cons

The work, the people, and the culture at Bain Dubai are very different from Bain in the US or Europe, and that is not a good thing: -longer cases (>6 months are no exception) -many experienced hires in mid-management that only come for the money & have 0 commitment to Bain values. Same thing for partners. Serious issues with the quality of people. Various people are known as slave drivers. Everyone knows, no one says anything. Strong yay sayer culture where no one dares to contradict the most senior people. And don't be fooled by the impression you are given in interviews. No one will remember you when you turn up on your first day. Make sure you speak to current employees to get the real view -culture is more like m&a banking on wallstreet than what Bain is like in the US. Very long hours, frequent weekend work is a given, no one cares about either. They say that will change, but 0 changes have happened. Employee satisfaction at consultant level and below is extremely low

Pros

Great name recognition for post-consulting careers - many headhunters will call you within the first month of your employment. The exposure to different industries and opportunity to learn a lot about how companies are run is great. Internal resources and support (i.e. research, IT) are excellent and so are certain perks (Friday afternoon happy hours, great vacation schedule). The training at Bain is comprehensive and one can tell that the firm spares no expenses to train its people. The company provides many tools to help one do one's job and there are opportunities to work abroad in other offices to experience other cultures.

Cons

High pressure, long hours and residual "old boys club" culture still persists. There are obvious favoritisms right from the start for those who have previously worked for the firm as Associate Consultants. The "meritocracy" that the firm preaches isn't always true - the louder one whines the more one gets. There is generally a lack of clarity on what is expected and what those expectations mean. Promotion usually favors those who were with the firm previously, and is openly talked about by management. This creates conflict and disparity among post-MBA hires and sets unnecessary rivalry and competition among colleagues. Managers at Bain are not trained to lead and manage people - they're trained to produce presentations and get the project done, so there is little in terms of professional development, even though that's what the firm touts as its key characteristics.
