Pros

Let's be honest Barracuda makes money. And they give stock options... well stock option. If you stick around forever and smile a lot. If your really good at smiling they'll promote you. If you are good at your job and for some reason can't get a job elsewhere here in the Valley check then this is a good place to wait. Really the biggest "Pro" of Barracuda is if you work for another company that they buy out and then can dumb done everything.

Cons

The pay is horrible, there are no real perks, it is a cult of personality much like Apple except without the verve and intellectualism and without the cool new building. We work in a penitentiary. Management is like working for Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Yeah they seem to make money by gambling and not getting caught but you question whether or not they should be driving motor vehicles some time. We do have plenty of liquor in the office and great equipment to work on except that last part isn't factual. Most competent engineers (and there have been some brilliant ones) are "acquired" from another start-up and then get annoyed and leave. For the most part the talent is marginalized and the bulk are very unskilled at their professions. Very unskilled. Barely script kiddies.

Pros

- Colleague creates a great working environment - Once promoted to tier II you have a bit more freedom - Plenty of knowledge to go around (if you ask the right people) - peers treat you with respect - great immediate exposure to "reworked" technology

Cons

- management collides with support and all of support feels unappreciated - micromanagement without reason - management will spy on what your doing due to lack of trust - management is not professional when criticizing colleagues. - no management structure (ie. VP will walk around doing a manager's job or supervisors job - "pick up the phone.") - pay is way below standards and raises are not given based on progression and work. compensation can start from low 40's to mid 40's but unless complaints are made, there's not much you can do. - no management enforcement to discipline tier 1's - there's a lot of unfair favortism between management and tier 1's

Pros

- Great people working there. - Some of the smartest in the business. - You get to drink on the job after hours. - You gain invaluable knowledge that will get you paid much more some where else.

Cons

- Management is full of incompetent people. - They hire by the dozen and keep one or two star players. - They do NOT value star players as their philosophy is that they can always find someone else. - They use the recession to under pay people and keep them there. - They make you feel like you're not worth anything so you don't job hunt. - Their products are below par and they want to get into the enterprise level(good luck w/ that). - When you work here other companies don't consider you as enterprise level. - No work/life balance. - C level executives and directors belittle you unless you're part of the "old boys" club. - They hire best friends of executives and it doesn't matter what type of experience you have, you could have even worked at Red Lobster and still work at Barracuda as long as you are buddies with the execs. - The most simple benefits the can't even provide you with such as a cell phone. - They will find anyway to not pay you. - No company functions even though they were 30% growth over the recession. - No recognition for jobs well done. - HR director is especially rude when you tell her that you are leaving for greener pastures. - CEO tells you he rewards loyalty but it's his way of dangling the carrot in front of your face for the 60% of market pay for the position you're getting. - If you aren't "fashionable" or "cool" you get out casted like its junior high. - A reward for a good job means you get to cut in line for burgers at the company picnic. - People are leaving that company by the dozen to go to websense and other companies. - They bribe you every year to take a survey to win a free t.v. so that they can give a fake presence about them being one of the best places to work at. - I could go on but it would just make me more angry....
