Pros

-Learn about finance -Coworkers -Free snacks -Respected company within the industry (opinions differ greatly among internal employees)

Cons

Analytics is the worst department, whether you are in BCS or in “Analytics and Sales”. It’s just a glorified customer support position, you most likely will not be an analyst unless you work on client spreadsheets. Everyone wants out of this department whether they are having a good or bad experience. If you are unfortunately placed on a team where you have a terrible manager or team lead, you have to be their favorite, kiss up to them, or document all your successes. Even still it’s an uphill battle from there. There are several instances I have heard of and seen in real-time of HR not stepping in or keeping someone in a leadership position that has been accused of harassment (bullying, verbal, sexual, racial, microaggressions). HR or employer relations pretty much just covers everything up. Or worse it is a common practice for them to share the report with the person being reported. From that point on the person who made the report faces retaliation and nothing is done about it. Before joining a team if possible try to get feedback from current and former team members to inform your decision. Looking at the company reviews on here just proves how widespread the issue is with a bad manager/team lead being able to make or break you.

Pros

Bloomberg is pretty chill as far as fintech goes. Best strategy is to put in the hard work for the first two years and learn their home-grown ecosystem. You mileage may vary, but once I've earned my status, I'd get away with ~20 hours of work a week

Cons

Bloomberg is very, very "cliequey" if thats a word. They pride themselves on their FST bootcamp and you'll quickly learn that most of your senior colleagues have grown up within the company with the same people they did the bootcamp with. Additionally, note the power dynamics of people on the US work visa. Many of them need to bite their tongue for years while they wait for a green card. Managers get used to quiet people and kinda of freak out, once a rare disagreable employee tells them "no". tl;dr You'll need to play careful political game if you enter Bbg as a senior tech hire to succeed. Tech stack is home grown and kind of peculiar. But the chill pace of the company makes up for it.

Pros

Its great to be in an area that's growing an being invested into if you're lucky enough to get there. Overall the firm does have a nice culture and there are some really experienced people that know the markets inside and help you get visibility into clients needs. Being at the centre of the financial industry has its perks in its own right.

Cons

Every decision is made at management committee level (mike and vlad) which means business are not empowered to make decisions they need at the local level and a lot of pertinent issues get lost along the way in the food chain. Some areas don't get any invested into even though they do really well and this can be frustrating. The architecture is old, lots of tech debt, slow movement in getting anything done generally. Engineering runs the place if you're in product. They don't get locked into jobs at all, can leave to a different department as soon as 2 weeks upon arrival. They start at 10 am everywhere and their choke hold over the agenda can be stifling. Some pockets of sales are really bad, they get a bit complacent and in areas they have locked in terrible people into sweet deals who seem to not get challenged.
