Pros

If you want a stable job and just want to spend everyday in the same tedious way, Bloomberg LP is the right place to go. They usually dont fire people, and the work there is just daily routine stuff that doesnt require any intelligence.

Cons

Very not productive environment. If you want to test something, you usually have to wait for 30 minutes before you get approval for access certain machines. A lot of fortran/c code written by some non computer science background people 10 years ago. You will spend days debugging those junk code if there's a bug.

Pros

Excellent benefits plus some nice perks like an open Pantry, free admission to various museums, etc. Working a Bloomberg provides a broad exposure to the financial Industry, with a well run training program.

Cons

Massive legacy code base to deal with (great if you want to work on your Fortran skills...) NIH syndrome to the max -- you're not going to be learning any transferrable tech skills here either. Advancement within the organization is difficult. Rather weak vision from the business side. R&D seems to be taking a back burner to developing the news business.

Pros

Company is willing to invest in resources and training for its employees and offers great networking opportunities and access to the terminal and seminars.

Cons

At the time, much of the technology was proprietary and you develop software / applications that are not as portable. However, in recent years, the company has been getting rid of their legacy code and modernizing their technology infrastructure. Big-brother watching with the badge-out and daily logs and tracking system.
