Pros

The office is very nice, Bloomberg requires long hours but pays very well. It's a good name in the industry, so helpful for your career beyond the company

Cons

- Company works employees very hard and has little actual regard for health and wellbeing. People get burnt out at alarming rates, but no changes are made within teams where this is rife - one would think you want to look at management if people keep being squeezed till they break? - Not a lot of flexibility for mothers or consideration for pregnant women. Work days at Bloomberg are longer than normal (you have to sign a waiver when you join), but requests for flexibility on very early starts can be flatly refused. - Very little career progression, few opportunities to move. Managers blatantly ignore instructions from above to help employees develop and try a new beat. Not meritocratic, either managers like you and stop you from moving to other teams or they don't like you and also stop you from moving teams. Bonkers. - Too many managers, not enough journalists in the newsroom. Tend to promote favourites, who are very bad at managing. Not always a very fair place to work.

Pros

They used to have good free food, now just has snacks. modern and beautiful offices. They also sponsored me from abroad to come work in DC.

Cons

Worked there for over 20 years and got PTSD in return. At age 70, wanted to retire in the next year or two and was hoping to do some sort of sunset plan. Instead, Bloomberg fired me and gave me a 8 hour notice to try to email all my friends, pack up all my things, and say goodbye to my colleagues. They basically used me for 20+ years and then decided they no longer want me and kicked me to the curb. The worst part, I realized my metro card (which refills in the beginning of the month every month) wasnt working that morning. Then when i got to work, i got pulled into HR's office. I was humiliated and couldn't even talk to my family about it. I wish they thought about the human behind the job. Instead of having a good retirement, it left me feelings hopeless and depressed. I ended up leaving the US, and know that my great experience in the US was all squashed because of the way Bloomberg treated me at the end of my career.

Pros

Provide great health and 401k benefits, free food, $75 daily COVID stipend for traveling etc

Cons

Team leaders and managers dont know what theyre doing, the pay is HORRIBLe and everyone is leaving because of it, which makes the lives of people who are still here even worse as work load continues to increase due to mass exodus with management working really slow to find replacements. basically, at this point, everyone is looking for a way out and people are only here while they are on their own job hunts. Maybe new hires might get competitive pay but people who have stuck around get really bad pay, with horrible increases each year. For reference, my current job on the street can make 40-50k more than what i make at bloomberg. They take advantage of young adults in their 20s and trap them in with this notion of a great company but then once youre hired, never looked at again for meaningful salary increases. If the current rate continues, Bloomberg wont have any employees with useful knowledge, and subject matter experts left. Theres a reason theres a mass exodusy They have also forced return to office for people in global data which is not necessary. They are not flexible with you working from different offices either, despite managemet emails claiming them to be. Currently, you have to go into the office 3 days a week, and as with everything at BLoomberg, your calendars are tracked and management is notified when you dont do this. If youre looking for a flexible working experience, Bloomberg is not the answer for you.
