Pros

Competitive pay Stable job in a recession Excellent benefits Great workplace - awesome building, amazing snacks, summer party and perks Very helpful and knowledgeable peers Software ownership - you own the product you develop Fast paced client facing software development

Cons

Incompetent middle management - suffers from tunnel vision and tends to bully Lots of fault finding - little credit given Software/architecture is ancient A lot of mediocre proprietary software which is essentially re-inventing the wheel Unemployable elsewhere after a few years Fairly long work hours - flex-time/work from home not encouraged though they exist on paper Few, if any, opportunities for professional growth. After 5 years as a developer you maybe promoted to team lead. Not a technology company - started by a trader for traders run by wannabe traders.

Pros

Free chips and soda, if you work long hours and work for 1.5 persons man hours, you will get 10k bonus

Cons

They make you work 10 to 12 hours and pay only 8 hrs for consultants, crappy architecture, any one line of java code you change, you are using free jetty and it takes 30 minutes to builds the project. Why can;t they use websphere/RAD, which picks up hot deploymenyt automatically I wonder if the great mayor knows about this bad practises. Somebody should take action No balance between work life and personal life

Pros

Excellent benefits plus some nice perks like an open Pantry, free admission to various museums, etc. Working a Bloomberg provides a broad exposure to the financial Industry, with a well run training program.

Cons

Massive legacy code base to deal with (great if you want to work on your Fortran skills...) NIH syndrome to the max -- you're not going to be learning any transferrable tech skills here either. Advancement within the organization is difficult. Rather weak vision from the business side. R&D seems to be taking a back burner to developing the news business.
