Pros

- Smart people; juniors are especially hungry/ambitious - Structured environment with trainings and clear career path - Widely recognized brand name - Fun lifestyle for young people (e.g., flying business class, staying in nice hotels) - Fast-paced environment

Cons

- Higher concentration of toxic personalities vs. other industries; private equity teams are particularly affected - Transactional culture with focus on winning-at-all-cost, leading to accepting any client request instead of pushing back - Lack of boundaries, leading to significantly long hours (e.g., days regularly ending at 3am / 4am) and occasional weekend work - Going above-and-beyond is expected, and a bad day at work may significantly alter career trajectory - Feedback is very heterogenous, despite similar performance; project leaders may choose to build narratives against employees at their discretion - General atmosphere of fear and limited trust and camaraderie - Tendency of viewing junior employees as resources rather than colleagues - "Panic mode", high levels of risk aversion, and limited guidance are the default on many projects, leading to less-than-ideal learning environments

Pros

Pay, benefits, projects (if you’re decently lucky to find a team that likes you and you like them)

Cons

Revolving door of talent. No one cares about your development if you’re struggling a little. So be ready to perform at the highest level without a single error. You’re not allowed a single bad case. Staffing will help get your first project. After that you’re pretty much on your own. Company promotes taking care of yourself but when you really have to take time off for serious health problems, you’re dinged in reviews, lose your connections as everyone behaves as if you don’t exist. The result is you will beg and beg to get staffed without any results. Instead of help, you’re given the “resilience and perseverance” advice from your leaders.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We genuinely appreciate your candid feedback, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve. We're deeply concerned to hear about the challenges you've faced, particularly regarding career development, staffing, and support during health issues. Your experience does not align with the culture and values we strive to maintain at BCG, and we take your comments very seriously. To address your specific points: Career Development & staffing: We aim to support all our employees in their growth, regardless of their current performance level. We understand the importance of consistent work opportunities. Work-Life Balance and Health: Your well-being is paramount. It's concerning to hear that taking time off for health reasons negatively impacted your standing. This is not in line with our policies or values. This is not the experience we want for any of our employees. We want to assure you that we are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every team member can thrive. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us identify where we're falling short of this goal. We encourage you to reach out to discuss your concerns further. There are several avenues available: 1. Speak with your HR Business Partner for personalized support. 2. Contact our Ombudsman for a confidential conversation. 3. Engage with our mentorship and/or coaching programs for additional guidance and support. 4. Schedule a meeting with your office leader to discuss your experience. BCG hired you for a reason, and we value your contributions. While we can't change your past experiences, we are committed to improving and would like the opportunity to better support you moving forward. Thank you again for your honesty. Feedback helps to drive meaningful changes in our firm.
