Pros

The People & Mentorship: The single greatest asset of BCG is the people. You are surrounded by some of the most intelligent, driven, and surprisingly supportive individuals you will ever meet. I learned an immense amount just from observing and working with my managers and team members, who were always willing to teach and mentor. Accelerated Learning: The learning curve is vertical. You are trained in a structured, data-driven approach to problem-solving that becomes second nature. In two years, I gained exposure to complex AI and tech product strategy challenges at major enterprise clients that I wouldn't have seen in five years anywhere else. High-Impact Work: You are not just making slide decks; you are helping to solve massive, multimillion-dollar problems. Leading the rollout of a new AI product and seeing it achieve 80% enterprise adoption was an incredibly rewarding experience that gave me a real sense of accomplishment.

Cons

Breadth Over Depth: The nature of consulting is project-based. While the exposure is broad, you are fundamentally a strategist, not a long-term owner or "builder." You often develop the roadmap and then move on before you can see it fully implemented over the years. This can be unfulfilling if you're passionate about the hands-on execution and iteration of a product. Intense Work-Life Balance: This shouldn't be a surprise, but the hours are demanding and the pressure is high. The work is challenging and engaging, but it requires significant personal sacrifice to meet deadlines and deliver the quality of work that is expected. High-Level Focus: While you work closely with technical teams, the role is, by design, strategic. You'll spend more time sizing opportunities and defining roadmaps than you will in the weeds with engineers or digging into the codebase. For those wanting a more hands-on technical role, this can feel like being one step removed from the action.

We appreciate the time you've taken to leave a review! We're so glad to see you highlight people, learning, and impact as three core benefits of working at BCG. We are constantly investing in brining on top talent that contribute to building a culture rooted in growth and mentorship. Thank you for your feedback noting the challenges of consulting, such as project-based work and work-life balance. While consultants can expect to work very quickly through a number of different projects, we also recognize the immense learning and career growth opportunities this type of approach can support. And as is common in peak consulting times, work-life balance is sometimes a challenge. We strive to help our BCGers make work-life choices by providing flexible working options and encourage consultants work with their managers to find a balance that works for them.
