      Pros

      CERN has an amazing work environment. You are constantly in the cutting-edge of technology, supporting or actively researching in the fields of IT, electronics, engineering and of course physics. You are surrounded by bright people, with hundreds of opportunities for networking. Overall a great organization to work for!

      Cons

      Some positions are not well supervised (reasonable if you consider the hundreds of positions in the dozens of groups), and extra work is not always valued.

      Pros

      It is the biggest research laboratory in the world. You can work on a research or engineering project in Physics or Computing from 8 to 13 weeks. Food is good and relatively cheap in the restaurants. There are lectures and lot of programmes to take part. You can work in the countryside instead of a metropolis.

      Cons

      Salary is smaller compared to other Computer Engineer intern jobs in expensive regions like Geneva.

      Pros

      Nice People, Great Rates of Pay, Tax Free and nice projects.

      Cons

      Almost no permanent contracts (very difficult to get one). You can only work there for a maximum of 8 years (5 + 3).

      Thank you for this overall positive feedback. Addressing your comment on permanent contracts, in 2014 retention rate of staff recruits was at about 30% and with a recently reviewed contract policy we aim towards increasing long term career prospects for staff and will continue to do so in the coming years.
