Pros
- One can get away with pursuing their own agenda and interests and the management don't care. - Final salary pension. - Exposure to serious technology.
Cons
- While the technology is interesting it is not relevant for working in the outside world, particularly in industry. This isn't helped by many in management having a dislike of the commercial world. - One can get away with pursuing their own agenda and interests and the management don't care. - All people at CERN care about is getting an indefinite contract. This involves sucking up to the management as much as possible. This also means that most people who work there are much more interested in their contract and benefits than in physics and technology. While the atmosphere should be one of excitement it is actually rather dull and beaurocratic. Morale is very low. Big Science is elitist, technocratic and autocratic - if you like that kind of environment you'll thrive.
