Very challenging and interresting job a lot to discover, being part of an internationnal effort to improve Science as a whole.

Cons

Need to be a physicist and have a PhD to have a real career opportunity.

Pros

Lots of interesting work and very good and competent colleagues. Lots of non-work related activities and people to meet.

Cons

Lack of strategy and direction on lower levels (better than a university but a lots worse than industry). Very bad career prospects due to contract situation.

Pros

Very demanding and challenging projects. Participate in one of the biggest research program in the world!

Cons

In teams where software is not the core business, it can be seen as just a service and not very well considered. I would advise software engineers to apply mainly for jobs in the IT departement (whose mission is much larger than what is usually refered to as IT in the industry). Also CERN is a place where internal mobility is difficult.
