Pros

More vacation time than non-consulting companies. Variety of work makes it interesting. Consultants and managers actually have real experience, unlike some of the other IT services firm where everyone is in their 20s (e.g., Accenture).

Cons

You may be staffed in an industry outside of your preference or past experience. This could make it difficult, if you get laid off, to find a new job since many companies look for industry focus as opposed to a little bit of several industries.

Pros

Great people, knowledge and capability. Good client base. Great teams and socials. Collection and momentum on direction ongoing of achieving top tier....

Cons

Promotion based on sucking up and brown nosing, not performance of personal objectives to contribution to team objectives. Little reward for sustaining or building business or billed out at v high margin (ie. above your grade on more than one assignment). No culling of poor performers of the year, or a chance of promotion above peers who underperfom. Poor reward for true effort to build business/ hit utilisation targets. (I'm sure it's great if you're one to sit the bench for long periods !! ). Ensure you know your market worth, go in for a few years to get base consultancy experience (perform - smash the targets and be flexible!), get headhunted to come out....

Pros

- Diversity of projects - technical people work on different sectors/accounts - Good senior management - know what they want and where we're going - Work/Life Balance - working from home is possible, business supportive of personal circumstances - Good opporunities for junior to mid-level grades to work on big systems / new technology

Cons

- You can get sent to anywhere in the country like most consultancies - Little international focus - unlikely to work across borders - Senior positions require less technical focus - Middle management is awful - delegation rules - Some good Enterprise Architects but the majority are very poor technically.
