Pros

Great campus, mostly nice people on the surface, challenging work, work-life balance. Decent severance package

Cons

I (along with many others) was hired a year ago only to be laid off due yet another restructure/re-org which already happened shortly after I joined. Capital One should have clear goals when hiring new people who left a former job for a new opportunity.

Pros

The designers I worked with were top notch and the projects were challenging and meaningful in my first few years. I will forever have amazing friends and connections from Capital One. The offices are nice. Your experience will all depend on who your manager is. I had amazing managers that supported me and my career in my first couple years (but also had horrible, toxic managers that had no clue how to manage people later on.)

Cons

So much turnover and change in the 4 years I worked there. My earlier years there were amazing but things went down the tubes in the last couple years with constant org changes and leadership changes. Current leadership lacks vision and bullies people. Several issues with gender and racial bias happening from the top. Promotions are based on favoritism. Lack of clear career growth and support. Underpays compared to bay area standards. Design is going through some real issues right now, It's really sad because the people and the work were so good, but the current environment is unbearable.

Pros

Great benefits, clean office and work environment, modern look building

Cons

An extremely toxic work environment. Management are unhappy but still put a smile and pretend this organization is the best place to work. Management are incompetent, yet they have expectations for deliverables and expect you to outerperform so they can suck dry the life out of you. The more you show you are smart, the more work you have to do to continue proving yourself to others... even a that stage and you won't even get a promotion because there are zero advancement opportunities. This place is not what it portrays itself to be, leaders back each others up and they always start with initiatives that never finishes or sustainable. Head office does not care about the call centres and people in Toronto believe that they understand operations and always do things in their best interest.
