Pros

-Wonderfully creative design team who fought for the customer when it came to design decisions -Some product managers know what they are doing and are a joy to work with, others just want you to tell them what they want to hear -I met and worked with super nice people -401k had great options and was a good match -Got bank holidays off

Cons

-Absent management who, when present, ignored major personnel issues. this resulted in my team loosing several individuals who just didn't want to be harassed any longer -Narcissistic people were able to secure management positions, causing teams to suffer -Product and Design do not understand what Agile is nor are they interested in following the practices, although they say they do -Advancement is nonexistent unless someone leaves. You have to be a Sr. Manager (people manager) before they will train you for management. That's right, you have to be in the position before you can be trained for it. This leads to a lot of people who have no business leading anyone or anything in the positions of power and those who have the potential unable to use it officially (many many people do the job of their manager, because that manager can't do their own job, without recognition) -Too many thought leaders who don't do anything -If ideas don't come from sr. leadership, they rarely get implemented. If they do, they are quickly co-opted by sr. leadership so they can take the credit -Yearly reviews are a joke. Your manager has to fight for your raise, bonus and promotion (if applicable) in a fight-club like situation where all managers present the merits of their employees and then they force rank everyone. So someone is always at the bottom. If you have a manager who is not good at this game, you have a very small chance of advancement. -Beware of those who want to advance. They will step on you to take the credit for what you have done. In order to get promoted you have to promote yourself relentlessly, even if that means your co-workers have to do your job for you because you are too busy going to meetings where you are in front of sr. leadership. -Health insurance was expensive (more so than other companies I have worked for) but offered good options for coverage -Only 15 days of vacation - non negotiable.

Pros

The campus and atmosphere is very nice, but management is non existent

Cons

I was hired on through contract for 3 months contract to hire, after being on the job for a couple weeks the manager above my manager was let go. (Although I didn't meet him, I gather that he was a manager with drive that wanted to accomplish something) After that point three new full time employees were hired on the team, and the four existing contractors were let go. Capital One's management has no plan. They hire engineers, give them no products or requirements and assume they will innovate like a startup. Upon asking for requirements from management (whom aren't located in Plano) we were directed to a manager who didn't communicate with the team. (And were told not to waste his time by scheduling meetings with him) There were 5 people at the company that had been there longer than a year. Everyone was new and had little to no idea how things worked. Being a bank they rely heavily on "friend of friend" hiring, other than the penetration testing contractors that worked near us, no one really did any real work from what I could see
