- lack of career mobility - lack of quality mentorship from managers - lots of old legacy technology and vendor products that are challenging to work with - very hierarchical reporting structure and too much middle management - consensus driven culture to a fault - few people are knowledgable enough to be comfortable making big decisions so the result is lots of long meetings with too many people - software development and product decisions move at a snails pace due to risk and regulations, consensus driven culture, high attrition, etc. - culture is not set up to encourage experimentation and iteration
