Pros

Great culture! People are very nice. Managers are well trained and professional. Have opportunities to try different positions, find the best for yourself! Richmond is a great place to live for many people.

Cons

Culture in different team could differ vastly. You might feel very comfortable in one team, but totally wrong in another team. Capital One looks for very specific type of person and promote well - if you deviates a bit from that bar, things are not going well. Capital One has a huge campus in Richmond - for those who are curious about outside world, location is a big con. Salary not very competitive.

Pros

Quality of intellectual talent - still among the best and brightest although erosion of average intellect has continued from its peak in 2004-2005.

Cons

Its just like any other bank now - no growth anywhere - dog-eat-dog politics. Political maneouvering trumps meritocracy. Some of the most unprofessional managerial behaviors have started to creep into the culture. Executives make noises from time to time but largely adopt a 'Look away and dont tell' position on such happenings. Some quality does exist at the MVP+ levels but thereafter, its all downhill VP and below.

Competitive pay and benefits (health insurance, 401K matching, on-site banking, fitness center, etc).

Cons

Politics, confusion and broken promises among/between upper management. Corporate leadership wants change/innovation/growth, but individual leaders generally don't want to change anything in their departments because they are so entrenched in the unique "Capital One Way" (even if it's no longer "the best way"), leading to mixed messages and conflicting direction at the implementation level.
