Pros

Cap One is analytically challanging, work is rewarding (if you are a problem solver and do not hesitate to roll up the sleves for some hard core analytical work). Culture is great - smart people who are very driven naturally, very supportive culture . It values work-life balance and promotes community services and volunteering. Although everyone is results driven and tries their hard to get the job done, I have found very few stressed people. Their bar in the interview process is very high, so maybe the selection there helps with keeping the overall stress low and at the same time deliver results. Overall pay for the hours most people put in is good, with very good work-life balance. Going to bed on a Sunday evening does not feel any worse than going to bed on Friday, this is definitely one of the best parts.

Cons

Cap One is not what it used to be - I have been there for 4.5 years now and could see the changes - it has turned into a small moving 'Big Business' that is more concerned with protective the turf than going after new opportunities. With the matured state, career advancement opportunities have decreased significantly. Also, pay for performance is not structured that well - you have ops and business making similar $$$ when business responsibilities are much greater, work is much more demanding (hours) and stress is probably higher. Also, there has been so much paperwork and 'procedures' to follow, that I think we turned into what we have been radoculing for the last 5 years on TV - 'BIG BANK' - ain't as much fun as before - it is just a job...(as good as the next best offer, I have to admit sadly)...

Pros

Above average pay, certain groups (in Richmond) are given very flexible schedules -- I've heard the majority of employees work 9AM to 5PM. I enjoy my immediate team and people are quite friendly here (I'm not certain how sincere it is, but I have lots of professional friends from the company)

Cons

Very political internally, advancement track is unclear / no "career maps", benefits average; I am expected to come to work in Mclean from 8AM to 7PM most days -- I think the firm talks about "work/life balance" but I'm some times not convinced it is a value of the firm. (<- it could be a Mclean thing).

Pros

Great buildings, grounds and cafeterias. Good benefits. Depending upon the department, very good people to work with - especially in the Financial Services department.

Cons

Technical departments are run by VPs with absolutely NO technical skills or knowledge. They continually make poor decisions based on their lack of industry knowledge. Overall, the company is VERY political. ALWAYS watch your back, no one is immune. Also, the 'future of work' environment requires most people to drag suitcases on wheels to and from work. Unless you're a VP with an office, you do not have a desk - you just occupy a chair at a table with everyone else.
