Pros

you could work here for the rest of your life

Cons

This place is absolute garbage. The culture is unbelievably toxic - people stopped addressing me in the 3rd person and just started addressing me in the 2nd person, e.g., "You will work 22 hours tomorrow" or "you will work 14 hours every saturday for the next 6 months, with no possiblity of vacation". The work life balance is non existent to say the least. I was promised I would be a software engineer and get to do what I love, but instead I'm just a janitor to work through these terrible internal processes and tools that are poorly defined and don't work 90% of the time. Literally everything I'm told to do is high priority fire drills that need to be resolved yesterday. This has been a complete waste of my life and is nothing but a red mark on my resume. I'm getting a raise with my next job, and cap 1 is even taking back my sign on bonus, so monetarily there's no reason to work here.

Pros

Decent Pay Hours are 9-5 Some ability to try projects outside role

Cons

Everyone is nice until you realize it is actually a bit of a toxic work environment. Coworkers seem nice but are actually quite competitive and will tell on you to management using any little thing they see or hear from you during hubs (have to be extremely careful what you say). Im in a situation where although results focused, if the manager doesn’t really care about you your career growth is completely stunted. It really is about how a manager sees you and how much you suck up to them. I am finding my role to be more about pleasing my manager and completely ignoring my own development. I also find that I am bot allowed to challenge management on any ideas as they see this as a challenge to their intelligence/ hierarchy. Work overall is also very boring. I am definitely feeling underchallenged burnout. Just avoid this place - there are definitely better opportunities elsewhere if you are looking to grow.

Pros

- Great place to learn cloud technologies and get your certs, free subscriptions to great online resources. - Some teams can be great at times and you may learn a few things if you are lucky. A lot of your colleagues are not extremely qualified so there's plenty of opportunity to mentor too. - As far as modern tech open-space sweatshops go they have nice sit-stand desks and nice aesthetics. Some catered lunches, the ones the business side pays for can be really good but engineering is mostly fed pizza. - A lot of distractions, you can be busy for months without doing any actual work. Don't worry, as long as you make your senior manager look good you will still get promoted!

Cons

The senior management team is great at manipulation and self-promotion; skills that allow them to recruit some good talent which, sometimes, accidentally, can form good teams. Don't expect those teams to last, you will soon find out that all work of substance is done by the US team. Canada is playing catch up, you will find yourself begging US teams to push a button for you, write tons of configuration and maybe a line of code or two. If a promotion comes don't expect money. Pay is under market but they pretend it's not. Be careful who you trust! It's all cliques, in-groups and the agile coaches are there to report your thoughts to managers.
