Pros

Good work/life balance, good work location, great separation benefits, tries to practice what it preaches with regard to company values, i.e. is more ethical than most banks.

Cons

Made a decision to replace traditional QA with full-stack engineers while refusing to allocate funds for re-training resulted in lots of product knowledge being shown the door. They are not sure what they want to be in San Francisco. Many layers of management. Home office is out of touch - CEO doesn't even visit San Francisco.

Pros

Capital One has phenomenal work-life balance opportunities if you land on the right team; I'm not on such a team, but I still have a fairly positive experience. Strong benefits: 7.5% 401k matching, good healthcare, paternity leave, et cetera. Opportunities are available to learn new skills on the job, and your manager will probably not turn down your request to study for a new certificate on company time. Great career move for the "put in my 40 and head home" crowd that still wants some challenges without the hoops of getting into the tech giants.

Cons

Moves slowly, good ideas are rejected frequently, forced rankings can add either toxicity to the team or cost you your job, depending on the team. Talent acquisition is non-existent for some teams; our team has lost half our developers within the last year, yet management has no desire to get new engineers but continue honoring delivery speed of a team twice our size.

Pros

- Good compensation (competitive salary + benefits) - Positive and easygoing people - Lots of social/fun activities - Good work/life balance

Cons

- Pretends to be a top tier tech company but far from it. Also doesn't pay like one. - Tech is mediocre at best. Code quality is low because often they just want to get it out of the door asap. - Agile done all wrong. Lots of rituals/formalities but the spirit is not there. - Collaboration between teams/departments is poor - Canada tech team often bottlenecked by US teams/policies - Senior management (director+) is nearly all white - Too bureaucratic
