Pros

Each shop I worked in there was an excellent group of employees. The one thing I miss about the coop would be the people I have ment in store.

Cons

Complete lack of understanding what it's like to work and run a store from the upper management out of store. What they expect you to do in an average week against the amount of hours you are given to do these tasks is a joke. Let alone serve customers to an acceptable standard. Even with working 60/70 hours a week it was not possible. The complete lack of reward for store managers for achieving any goals set is appalling. The way managers have been treated over the past year or 2 regarding pay is also a joke also. Pay rises for lower levels and nothing for managers and they wonder why motivation and moral is at an all time low... I sat in my last managers meeting a couple of months ago looking around, never have I seen such depression in one room, I thought I was at some kind of rehab class. Something needs to happen quick to what was a good company to work for or there won't be anyone left.

Great job, poor setback.

Pros

Working at the co-operative was a great experience overall. Everyone was friendly, I worked in a small supermarket so working hard didn't mean over-exertion and most of the customers seemed genuinely grateful to have 'you personally' as their staff. The pay was fair and there wasn't too much stress.

Cons

Working shifts was made a problem by how hard it was to change availability. "Flexible hours" as dubbed by the co-operative, aren't flexible at all. I had trouble with working 35-38 hours a week for some months because of poor staff and my inability to convince them I could cope with the strain of never seeing the light of day.

Pros

Good management, good rate of pay, and in general a highly enjoyable working environment. I was only there on my gap year but would definitely work there again.

Cons

Difficult working on a part time or zero hour contract as it's difficult to organise other things in life around the unpredictable hours.
