Pros

No official uniform but personal wears

Cons

I waited till today that is exactly two months DB Schenker Calgary Balzac stopped me from my job hoping for justice but found none. I decided to share my story to lighten my heart burdens so as to prevent risk of eventuality. I had a sour experience at DB Schenker. This is my sour story. Staffing A recruited me while Staffing B interviewed and hired me. I began work on the 8th of July 2024, excited and ready to work but little did I know that I would meet with a challenging supervisor who created a difficult and unconducive work environment for me for the period she assumed duty till when I was stopped from work. All these happened when I was still in my three months probation period and it happened within the space of seven to eight weeks. The original supervisor, a man, was a good leader, I was learning and enjoying my new job until he was transferred to another department. The new supervisor joined Layup department about 4 or 5 weeks into my employment. She introduced herself in our meeting, we all did and went for our various duties. That same day I used the washroom and while I was cleaning my hands to leave my supervisor walked in to use the washroom too. I left to continue my work but surprisingly, when my supervisor was done, she walked up to me to asked me of my name again. I told her my name and continued my work. On August 13th, 2024, someone stole my water bottle from my cart along with the tape I was working with. I immediately reported this to my supervisor, security and staffing B, who hired me, same day. I was so disappointed by the response I got from my supervisor. She said that ‘they cannot check the camera because it will take up to three hours before they can see it’. I went back to staffing B just to clear my curiosity about the response I got but unfortunately, I got the same answer. But I thought to myself, so, what if I reported that someone stole one of the company’s items I was working on? Will they use up to three hours to look for their stolen item or they will just let it go like that? I was concerned about my stolen water bottle because of two things. 1. Did the person take it with malicious intent? Or 2. Did the person take it to do bad to me? What exactly did the person use my water bottle for? Big question that needed answer. Meanwhile the person distributing PO each morning always shuffled the POs before she gives me. She has three groups of POs. 1. Those with large numbers of units (From 500-2,500 or more) with one or two pallets, 2. The ones with more units with about two to four pallets, and 3. The one with very few units with up to 4, 5, or 6 pallets with more than 4 headers. Sometimes this third group has only one unit on a pallet. This third group was where both my supervisor and the person distributing PO grouped me. Sometimes I work on PO with 17 headers. The first time I asked the woman why did she always give me the PO with smaller unit, the ones with four or more pallets? She said, ‘is not like that’. This did not stop. In another time I told my supervisor my experience, but she said, ‘yes I told her to be giving you smaller units for now’. Same supervisor who will tell me I’m having small units per day. Despite my questions, this continued. Often, I will start my daily work in Layup but my supervisor would asked me to finish in another department. But may be my supervisor always report to management that I used three hours to finish one or two POs, maybe she said that was what I did for the whole day without letting DB know she always take me halfway out of my department to another department, I don’t know. The report I got from staffing B was that they have been warning me and there was no change. Warning me on what? I do not know. May be that was the report given to them about me but there was not any warning. A lot of my colleagues made big mistakes on the job but the supervisor never saw it as a thing of concern. I felt that my mistakes were seriously highlighted more than others. Even when I worked a week in another department, my supervisor included my name in a list of people who made mistakes in that same week I didn’t work in Layup. I called her attention to it, but she ignored me and has nothing to say to it. On many occasions she called out names of people who made mistakes without mentioning my name but the moment I did a little mistake, she will over blow it out of proportion and escalated it. Taking the pictures and sending it to the management (She told me). She never took the pictures of mistakes made by others to management. Just ONE time I asked my supervisor to help me talk to the receiving department to help re-arrange my pallet so as to enable me to identify the different cartons with information turned inward. Just one time, and this was because the pallet has 45 very heavy boxes. Her response was not professional. Every employee in layup asked other colleagues questions on their work. But My supervisor will tell me ‘I was watching you how you go to someone to ask question” as if it was forbidden to do that or as if others don’t asked questions too. Even when I did not ask questions, she will tell me I go to colleagues to ask questions. I felt strong discriminated against, bullied and harassed. Treating me differently. There was no opportunity for me to defend myself at all concerning this untruthful report about me. I said this because, despite reporting these issues to one of the managers on ground, it was getting worse. I further reported her to staffing A on the 22nd of August 2024. Still, nothing changed. Again, I reported her to the layup manager on the 18th of September but unfortunately there was no opportunity for me to know the outcome because I was stopped from my job on the 19th. It is unfair for me to go through all these from my supervisor and no opportunity to defend or explain myself. And no vindication either. In fairness to Staffing B, when I was told to stop coming to work, I shared a brief version of my story with the person from staffing B who called me, but the caller said I should have told them earlier. I told staffing A, two managers already so I was about to tell staffing B when I was stopped. Perhaps, staff welfare is not a priority.
