You will learn industry standards (through your effort alone)

The work life balance is terrible. There are no real structures in place to train new employees so you either make it by the grit of your teeth or you fail terribly. You are forced to deadlines you didn’t make as a project manager, and even if you somehow manage to meet the impossible deadlines and expectations, you will never get a promotion without threatening to leave the company. Most of the design engineers in NPD describe themselves as living in a constant state of panic.
