      Great place to work, but some things lacking

      Pros

      Of all the consulting firms I've worked for, Deloitte is the most receptive to trying to maintain some semblance of a work-life balance. Compensation is above average and is something that doesn't cause a lot of heartburn among practitioners. Other benefits, including PTO and leave, are top-notch and Deloitte walks the talk when it comes to supporting diversity and women's initiatives.

      Cons

      I've been kind of suprised that Deloitte doesn't utilize the "work hard, play hard" mentality that I have seen with a lot of other firms. There is definitely less of sense of community with Deloitte than other consulting firms.

      Pros

      broad range of clients and experience, great way to learn about new industries and companies

      Cons

      long hours, pay is not as high as within client firms, career advancement is based upon who you know more than competency. Morale is at an all time low right now. All staff are looking over their shoulders to see who is going to be the next to get fired. After many layoffs, everyone assumes that they are going to be in the next round. This is not good for productivity - especially watching the job market in New York at present which doesn't bode well for those who get fired.

      Good exposure to large public clients. Good internal trining program. Highly educated staff & mgmt.
