Pros

MBAs start as Consultants or Senior Consultants. The career path is Senior Consultant ? Manager ? Senior Manager ? Partner. It takes approximately 3 years to be promoted from each level, but early promotions are available if the candidate is ready. Deloitte, like other consulting companies, uses an up or out career strategy, where if they feel that you will never make the next level, you will be asked to leave the firm. Deloitte does not allow an employee to sit at one level for their entire career. They employ an up or out strategy to ensure that promotions are handed out timely.

Cons

Work life balance is difficult. You are asked to work a lot of hours depending on the client needs. If you are working in ERS, you are also asked to work a busy season for 4 months out of the year. During this period you are forced to work a minimum of 50 hours a week. However, many people work more than 50 hours during this time period. You also cold spend a lot of time traveling to various locations for client work. However, management does try to be very flexible and accomodate your personal needs as much as possible...

Pros

Deloitte is a prestigous firm and working there earns you bragging rights. Most offices have their very own personal gym on premises with personal trainers available. Dress is usually business casual unless at a client or meeting. Deloitte offers its employess countless live training courses as well as a wealth of online training modules available to just about every employee.

Cons

Some of the drawbacks to working at Deloitte are long hours, competitive office environment, blackout periods for vacation, no bonus for staff until you have 2+ years of experience under your belt, resistance to employees transfering between groups and practices, audit rotations are only given to top performers who are in the process of taking the CPA exam.

Pros

The people are the most friendly and collaborative group I believe out of the Big 4 accounting firms. The firm has some of the most technical partners and who are willing to teach and push-down the knowledge and work. The company has some great perks such as fitness subsidy and career coaching.

Cons

Terrible work-life balance like any other Big 4. Sometime not enough recognition to employees and showing appreciation through monetary and nonmonetary means. Compensation seems to be on the lower end compared to the other firms.
