Pros

It's a good place to start out. The people are young and generally friendly. It's great if you are moving to a new city, you immediately have a network. Lot's of the new hires are not that bright, but are ambitious. Almost none want to be here long term, so if you actually show good work ethic and enthusiasm you get great exposure and you will gain experience fast.

Cons

It all goes downhill after the initial excitement runs out. Everyone is looking for ways to get out. The salary is survival-level, the hours are definitely not justifiable by the pay. The culture is that the work is never off, you are on call 24/7. People get upset if you are not checking your email every 2 minutes. Everyone expects a response withing minutes. You have zero social and personal life. People are extremely bitter and miserable - most say that they will put up with it if the pay was not this bad. Job security is a thing of the past too, recent layoffs show it. Deloitte is a very transitional place, they expect to use you and that you leave. There is zero expectations that you will be there long term. The moto "people first" is a joke - politics are a lot more important that people. Don't expect Deloitte to help or assist you in any way if you need something. While most client service management and partners are actually nice and accommodations - the support staff (HR, etc.) are extraordinarily incompetent. They will make every effort to derail what you are trying to do and will never support you. The bureaucracy is really set up against people's best interest and is impossible to battle. Also, forget about quick advancement - 3 years for senior, 3-4 more for manager, 3-4-5 more for senior manager, then another 4-5 for partner. Making partner in less that 10 years is a thing of the past, now you will wait 15-20.

Pros

So far what I have seen is the commitment to promotion and career development. Comparing it my previous software firm this is something that I have been looking for. Support to move forward and merit wins not tenure. Secondly, from what I have seen Deloitte seems to take this whole process to another level and is very open about it with you. I am sure politics play a huge role with promotions however there is enough open process that you should be able to get a fair shake and not have to work the political side more than actually working. One final note to move up you need to be involved in the sales process if you are given the title of Senior Consultant. That also adds to moving up.

Cons

Learning to navigate Deloitte seems to be a challenge that you needs to work through. It is also the key to getting ahead. The fastest you get this down and your network started the better off you are.
