Pros

External customer reputation is outstanding

Cons

Team members at all levels micromanage to the detriment of efficiency and quality. Sometimes it feels like I need a hall pass to simply take a lunch or run out for a few minutes (try going *away* on Teams for 15 minutes) (working from home). The lack of trust, autonomy, and empowerment given to professional and exempt employees, who are capable of managing their own schedule and workload, is the driving reason for this review. I have worked in several different roles and companies, and even at the start of my career was given more freedom than I receive here to just get my job done. Unnecessary barriers are put into place to promote favoritism when it should be based on quality of work, competency, and expertise (including certifications). Pay at Discover is very low compared to other companies and similar roles. Consulting paid more in 6 months than this role in FTE.

Pros

Coworkers were the only pro at this job.

Cons

Got told during training to keep our resumes up to date because of the merger. Coaches, managers and even HR don't know proper attendance information and how to provide it. Regardless of how great your Link'd report is, it is all a farce. You're just a number on a screen. Coaches and managers will not help you keep your job in case of health issues. They will misguide you and take no blame for misinformation. HR will throw company policy in your face when they themselves don't even know correct guidance, then terminate you.

Pros

Great co-workers Free swag Semi-flexible working schedules Great benefits Very inclusive company culture

Cons

Call volumes are high and not enough support staff to make the calls not overwhelming. You’re treated like a number and not a person and all they only care about your performance and not why you may be performing badly They care more about their cardholders than their employees and if you get a bad survey and it is regarding a company policy not how you handled the call personally, they will not remove it because we are apparently responsible for how the cardholder perceives the situation and their feelings on it. Hard to move up into a non phone agent roll and no feedback is provided when asked why you were not given a promotion or there is none available other than “be in the right place at the right time” They are constantly making changes but most of the changes make jobs harder and cause more issues for phone agents but won’t do anything about it.
