Pros

Aersospace work is interesting in itself Some great people to work with and will help support professional development Some great acquisitions with legacy businesses and people that are great to work with

Cons

Poor Managment Too metric driven Touts "pay for performance" but does not deliver Demands performance excellence while only providing average pay/benefits Laying off too many people to sustain operations/R&D/competitive advantage Forces beauracratic process on aquisitions that are not structred to execute (too lean) Preaches work/life balance and many other great initiatives but every action made contradicts those commitments to these great initiatives

Why not the best...

Pros

Engineers rarely have to come with any new ideas. Management doesn't like wasting time on new designs. Just tweak what is already there--make it work.

Cons

Office politics on steroids. If you are not a professional, you really don't want to work for this company. Management has no respect for skilled trades. Not much more than a good old boys club. Female Engineers beware. You won't like your treatment here.

Pros

They are aware and supportive of work life-balance issues, as a rule. They are a proactive environment, they favor continual improvement, and as a rule, status quo is not a sacred cow. Depending whom you ask, and the position, compensation is average to better than average. The company gets coverage on national media from various sources, it's fun to see your CEO on Mad Money being touted as a hero of Wall St.

Cons

In bad times, like recently, some of the pros that are mentioned above get erroded. With the bad times came layoffs and all of the morale drag that comes with. And, having a CEO that's touted as a hero of Wall St. isn't nearly as fun when the hero is eliminating your friends job and asking you to do two jobs at once. It's everything promised in a big corporation, its easy to be nameless and invisible. Culture varies somewhat from plant to plant and busines to business. Some company leaders are great, motivational, and empowering; while (a few) others are straight out of a dilbert cartoon.
