Pros

Eaton provides a solid work experience, especially if you haven't had a corporate structure before. However, it is very easy to be left behind and forgotten in this company, due to the lack of employee recognition beyond first shift. The dirty secret is that, first shift has all tiers of management on deck for evaluation, face to face communication, networking, etc. However, 2nd and 3rd shift operators have only team leads residual management to communicate with, which doesn't leave any opportunity for growth. Once you're in 2nd or 3rd shift, you are stuck. This can be categorized as a con, however I personally used it to my advantage become a big fish in a smaller pond. Overall, work experience will carry over well into other forms of manufacturing at other companies.

Cons

Wages are never enough, you'll forever chase a carrot at the end of the stick. No matter what level of work experience you have, you will have to a lot of your time to make it worth your while. For example, a good percentage of my 2nd shift works overtime to see a significant salary, which includes weekends. My first day of work included a benefits meeting for senior and incoming employees, which was a disaster. Every senior employee had major complaints on the cut backs of health care benefits, which had very expensive deductibles and barely covered care for family members who were terminally ill. I was fairly traumatized by this experience and questioned if a long term employment was worth it. Read everything and scrutinize all fine details, since there is a lot of jargon used to emphasize well being. Manufacturing workers often develop chronic pain and healthcare must be adequate. Compare plans with spouse or parent, and remain informed.
