Pros

Paycheck, Casual in some parts of company, health and retirement benefits

Cons

"Rules" for traditional employees don't apply to FDP. People with decades of experience and master degrees are by passed for kids with two years of rotation experience in company, that is only accessible with the right connections and from the same three universities. No diversity in universities or backgrounds. Privilege helping privilege. Traditional employees are told those individuals are "exception", but 10 out of 10 times it's not true. W So kids with minimal experience, big egos and a safety net of gold...what do you end up with, incompetent entitled leaders who destroy the work life balance of those below them to the point of modern slavery (70-80+ hr work weeks, expect to answer emails 1 am) to ensure their image and place on the totem remains intact. How else does someone with no experience, minimal time put in, and minimal education make sure they are secure...by standing on the backs of those below them. Putting in time and effort to prove performance only applies to those with traditional career upbringings.

Pros

Not bad as pharma companies go. Relatively good job security. A lot of lovely, smart and hard working people. Benefits team are generally receptive and benefits have improved. Less likely to lay people off than other pharma/biotech.

Cons

Your experience is almost entirely dictated by your managers. Adherence to official policies is super variable. Site is relatively siloed from the rest of the company, top-heavy, and academic. Too many PhDs, not enough entry level development to support projects and execution. Sometimes a lack of clear leadership or direction and bizarre "old school" pharma opaque communication. Very limited, once yearly opportunities for promotion. Bizarre pay /compensation penalties for taking parental leave that saddles two different calendar years.
