Pros

Great pay & benefits, and I love that Amazon is invested in their employees and encourages them to move around within the company. I have experienced flexible hours and a great work/life balance, and I like that I have the opportunity to work with some really smart and successful people on a daily basis.

Cons

Managers have high standards and projects can be very ambiguous. Things are changing so quickly that you may have to drop something you've been working hard on to focus on updated deadlines or a change in priorities from leadership, but I don't mind that - it keeps me on my toes and teaches you to be flexible. Also, I know that each organization has its own culture, and so some managers or teams may be more demanding than others. I had a really difficult manager but ended up moving teams and haven't had a problem after that -- 4 years later. Also, one small thing but something I don't love is that external folks constantly assume that Amazon employees received way more perks than we actually do. No free or discounted prime membership (which people are shocked to hear), a minimal discount on items from Amazon, and free coffee but that's about it. There are a variety of discounts on other items like cell phone and local Seattle gyms, but thinking through what employees would actually find valuable would go a long way to making us feel recognized and special.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
