Pros
brand name, easy to get in, pay is not the worst. not bad for an internship. you can tell your friends and family you work at the aMAzon, wow!
Cons
- vesting is unbelievably bad (3 years to keep 401k match are you kidding me?). - 5% stock for first year sde-1: amazon loves paying its employees! - as SDE it is 90% useless meetings, testing and ops with AWS services no one uses outside of Amazon. Definitely impressive transferrable skills for your next job interview! Some other new grad SDE on my team literally just wrote tests for 5 months straight. Awesome, challenging and exciting work here at Amazon! - Oncall: varies the most per team. But it can be very bad for certain AWS teams - Low hiring bar - Everyone in industry knows Amazon has the lowest bar and weakest talent. Sad to have this trash on my resume. People will look down on you for having this company on your resume, especially for new grad SDE - rampant politics. work on something and coworker takes all the credit for their promo! Managers also constantly lie about promo - "Leadership principles" - just toxic and awful culture constantly reinforced through these. too much to go through on here - they do not know what benefits are. Disgustingly low HSA match. Insurance provided is awful. No free food or snacks. Bananas don't count since even non-employees can get them for free. - this is NOT a tech company. it is a cheap "customer focused" business
