Pros

Being a large corporation, Amazon has the will and the way to use a significant amount of resources to promote safety. Whether it be technological or financial. It keeps close and sometimes surpasses Industry standards. It has well executed yard safety standards that one will learn thoroughly. Good benefits (private health insurance, stocks, bonus)

Cons

I would not advice a graduate or any new safety pro to pursue a role as whs manager for two reasons: a) the scope is limited, you are subject to a warehouse setting that doesnt require you to develop in all of the safety standards such as hot work, compressed air and gas, industrial hygiene, etc. So if you were to move to another EHS position somewhere else, you will not have a satisfactory wealth of knowledge. b) Operations are going to focus on productivity and managers can be very sneaky trying to find ways to bypass WHS so it does take a seasoned and skilled manager that makes sure nobody gets away with it. This is why I would advice against a graduate holding that position --maybe start as a technician or specialist. HR is also not the greatest support system onsite. I have seen many shady, abusive and disrespectful people get away with so much and that has turned great people into cynical leaders. You WILL be overworked and payment will not be competitive. I spent tons of nights there (as in, worked double shifts) so there is no real work-life balance.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
