Pros
Amex used to have a great culture and leadership that was based on meritocracy but that is long dead and buried now. The products are still quality but that's about all this company has going for it.
Cons
So so so so many problems with the way this company has changed in the past few years. It all starts at the top as Steve Squeri is one of the worst leaders I have ever seen and he had no business replacing Ken Chenault as CEO. The company completely abandoned any semblance of merit and is so disgustingly wrapped up in woke identity politics that anybody with half a brain has either already left or aligns with the ideology that they aggressively pushed on the entire workforce. It became very common for various senior leaders and even full on large business functions to be sat down for meetings where zero business content was discussed and instead the company told you what to think, how to think and what values you needed to represent. Many, many individuals that are completely unqualified were promoted to roles they had no business occupying. There is a night and day experience depending on your demographics and what you look like. I used to be very proud to work for American Express and by the time that I finally left I was literally sick to my stomach disgusted at how hard this company had pivoted and changed its ways.
