Pros

The company follows values of doing the right thing and following the science. Impressive summer fun days and Christmas parties which help morale.

Cons

Promotion opportunities are non existent and are given to people who promote themselves rather than the most high achieving scientists that produce credible achievements for projects and the company. Salaries are much lower than other companies and are more in line with those in academia. New people to the company end up starting on more money than those that have worked there years. Severe lack of clear communication from senior management regarding big changes to the company and lack of support from HR. Motivated scientists end up leaving the company due to lack of recognition of hard work. Due to cost savings no international travel is permitted in some working areas. Constantly having to find ways to save money which often comes as a consequence for scientists, but managers are still able to travel. Low morale across the company due to lack of leadership in some areas. Flexible working, holidays, opportunities are all dependent on manager and not all managers are fair managers.

Pros

I imagine this is very dependent on line management but I find my team and supervisors to be true champions of a high performing and highly compassionate work culture. I find my work challenging and rewarding, and have had opportunities to learn and grow and be rewarded and recognized for my output. No job is perfect but I’m truly happy to work here and at a time when AZ is truly rising like a rocket.

Cons

Like any massive global corporate entity, things can sometimes move slowly and it can be challenging to navigate a high number of constantly evolving priorities and initiatives. That being said, AZ is very clear about its north stars and values which makes it possible to prioritize work that has the most impact and alignment with the company’s ambition and business prerogatives. 60% office attendance policy is also a bit funny when oftentimes I am on Teams calls with colleagues sitting in other areas of the world.
